What Is Root Canal Therapy?
Root canal therapy is a dental treatment used to address infection or inflammation inside a tooth. The inside of the tooth contains soft tissue, nerves, and blood vessels. When that area becomes damaged or infected, it can cause pain, pressure, swelling, or sensitivity.
During root canal treatment, the affected tissue inside the tooth is removed, the inner space is cleaned, and the tooth is sealed. In many cases, a crown or other restoration may be recommended afterward to help protect the tooth and restore function.
A root canal is often the alternative to removing a tooth when the tooth can still be treated and restored.
Signs You May Need a Root Canal
Tooth pain does not always mean you need a root canal, but certain symptoms should be evaluated. The only way to know what is causing the problem is to have the tooth examined.

From there, he will evaluate the tooth and surrounding area. X-rays may be recommended to better understand what is happening below the surface. If root canal therapy is appropriate, our team will explain the process, what to expect, and any restoration that may be needed afterward.
If the tooth cannot be saved or a different type of care is recommended, Dr. Riggio will walk you through those options clearly.
Will I Need a Crown After a Root Canal?
Many teeth need additional protection after root canal therapy, especially back teeth or teeth that have lost a significant amount of structure. A crown may be recommended to help protect the tooth, restore chewing function, and reduce the risk of future damage.
